Are you one of the 110,000 people who searched Google for "travel the world and get paid" this month? Who doesn't like to travel? It's coming up with the funds to make it happen that slows people down. And what happens if you actually do go abroad and decide you really like it? How do you maintain your finances for several months?
One way to make your "get paid to travel" dreams come true is to be an au pair abroad. How do you become an au pair? It might be easier than you think.
Geovisions Foundation has been sending au pairs abroad since 2006. We are experts in helping people get great au pair jobs and screening families around the world who want to become host families to young people who will provide child care and English tutoring to their children. We're here to provide all the help you need to decide if becoming an au pair abroad is for you.
What is the au pair meaning? An au pair is typically a young person who lives with a screened host family and takes care of the children in exchange for room and board and a weekly or monthly allowance. Sometimes that incredible host family will pay for your airfare to go abroad and reach them so that you can be their au pair.
Next, just prove you're in great health by getting a physical from your own doctor. And let us know how many hours you've spent in the last few years babysitting or working with children? If you spend hours working in an afterschool program, or if you babysit evenings for neighbors or friends and even if you care for your cousins, all of this counts toward your hours of childcare experience.
To be a great au pair, fill out our application form and we'll interview you. Choose a country where you'd like to live for a few months (and get paid while living there) and we can have you matched with an amazing family in a matter of a few short weeks.
The world out there is actually an aupairworld if you consider that we have au pair jobs for you in Australia, China, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, New Zealand, and Spain!
Do you have only 2 or 3 months that you can spend abroad in this aupairworld we find ourselves in? No problem. Think in terms of France, Germany, Italy or Spain. It's easy to use your tourist visa and spend no more than 90-days with a host family as their au pair in Europe. The au pair pay is the same if you stay for 3 months or 12 months!
If you only have six months, give a thought to New Zealand or Australia. You'll need a working holiday visa for those two countries. But it's worth it. Stay six months and then say another six months doing something different if you have the time. You'll have the money because you'll be paid to be an au pair for those first six months.
The Netherlands requires a 12-month commitment. That requirement comes from the government, and there isn't anything we can do about it.
