Overview
Vietnam is emerging as one of the most popular destinations to teach in Asia. There is a huge demand for native English speakers to teach in Vietnam alongside Vietnamese teaching assistants. We assist with training and qualifying teachers to thrive in Vietnamese schools. Teaching in Vietnam is an amazing opportunity to explore an exotic and culturally rich country that is growing rapidly, yet still maintains many of its ancient customs and landscapes. Participants will teach throughout the country in a variety of different urban and smaller town environments in well-equipped private language schools or in public schools.
From innumerable rice paddies and the Mekong river delta in the south to the highlands and beach resorts of central Vietnam, and the French colonial architecture and diverse cuisine of northern Vietnam, there is so much to see, do, and taste, in this wonderfully diverse country.

- An experienced U.S.-based Cultural Exchange Project Manager who will serve as your coordinator and liaison with our in-country staff in Vietnam.

Additional expenses to consider to begin your job:
- Schools in Vietnam will not pay your international airfare. And you'll be responsible for your local transportation.
- We've got your accommodation covered for orientation week and during in-country TESOL if you signed up for that course. Otherwise, when you begin teaching, you'll be responsible for your accommodation, such as rent.
- Plan to pay for your meals. Eating in Vietnam is very affordable, though.
- Visa.
- Take out a health insurance policy for the time you're teaching.

Medical test required? YES for the work permit. Medical Disqualifiers: Autism, Epilepsy,Bipolar, HIV, Dyslexia, Walking with cane, Legally blind or deaf, Chronic dizziness, TB, Manic Depressive. Conditions Require Discussion with us before approval: Anxiety, Depression, Cancer. Notes: If taking any medication for mental health, must have doctor’s note.
Dependents: No dependents can be accomomdated on this program. Pets: It is possible to bring pets to the program. However, most schools discourage participants from traveling with a pet. The participant must bear all responsibility, logistics, and costs if choosing to do so. Schools cannot arrange or manage your entry into the country with a pet, nor can they guarantee support for pets at your placement. Moreover, bringing a pet may limit your placement and accommodation options, as finding suitable accommodations could become more challenging. It might also significantly increase your start-up costs.
Clean background checks. Minor offenses can be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
Native English speaker: Must have USA, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, or New Zealand citizenship. South Africans may be required to complete an English proficiency test & legalize it prior to departing. However, on a case-by-case basis, Non-native English speakers can be accepted, but only from Europe due to immigration restrictions. They must have at least a C1 level of English to be placed in a paid teaching job. Must see an intro video at signup to confirm eliglibility.
A minimum 120 hours accredited TEFL and/or TESOL certification approved and internationally accredited. Our TEFL Plus certification is highly recommended.

Private Language Centers: 15 - 25 per week, Working 5 days per week but maybe not consecutive. Weekends are NOT off. Public Schools: 20 - 25 per week, Monday to Friday, Sat and Sun off.
Private Language Centers: around 15 students per class; Public schools: There are typically 40 - 50 students per class.
We try our best to match your preferences. We ask for preferences at the beginning of the placement process, but we are clear that we cannot guarantee preferences. (1) The availability of positions when the teacher plans to head over. (2) The teacher's profile, including education and experience. (3) How the teacher performs in the interview. Having said that, we can typically meet some placement preferences such as region, age group, etc. If someone really wants a specific location, we can meet that preference 99% of the time for placements in Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City. Placement preferences can be met outside these areas but at a lower rate.
We typically provide one qualified job offer that most closely matches the teacher's preferences. If there is more than one position available at the time, we will present other options, however, it is unlikely as schools typically move fast to fill positions so we get them in quickly and they are filled quickly. If a teacher rejects the well-qualified offer, we may provide additional placements, but this will depend on the teacher's openness and flexibility. Our terms and conditions state that we will provide one quality position, and any further offers are at our discretion. If a teacher rejects a well-qualified offer, they must be patient and prepare additional funds as we cannot say when the next placement will be available.
Only Blackout start date is February. Can come any other time of year. Private Language centers operate throughout the year. The public school year runs from September to May. The peak hiring time is in August for both school types.
Public schools: Mainly go on for 9-month contracts, hiring for the period starting the beginning of September to May. Language Schools: Centres hire throughout the year.

4 months prior to intake date, 4-5 months preferred. Any of the intakes are fine, easy enough to place throughout the year. Those interested in public schools should finish their TEFL by end of July or August so they can start with the new school year in late August or early September. The shortest possible timeline is 45 days. Acceptance for shorter timelines can be handled upon enrollment on a case-by-case basis.

Factors that impact timeline include, but not limited to: Speed of document collection; degree of teacher placement flexibility; interview performance; school breaks and/or long holidays; immigration visa processing.
Both onsite and Placement Program - 60 days prior to intake and departure date.
Tourist Visa: In-country TESOL participants: Applicants apply for a Tourist Visa and do a visa trip after the TESOL finishes. Takes approximately one week long and is usually done in Thailand. Business Visa: Placement Program Plus: School applies for the Business Visa on behalf of teacher, who collects their visa sticker at the Vietnam embassy in their home country, or on arrival. Business visa will later be changed to a work permit by immigration in Vietnam.
Housing for onsite TEFL is included. Housing during orientation week is included. Rent when your placement begins runs $200 to $500 per month. Normally, the first month's rent and a deposit equaling one month's rent are required. Placement Program Startup Costs - $1,500 USD to get teachers through to their first paycheck TEFL + Placement Startup Costs - $2,000 USD to get teachers through to their first paycheck--------------------------------Health Insurance - We require all participants to be covered for travel insurance for at least their first 3 months in Vietnam. Language centers will cover teachers for insurance purposes after they receive a work permit, but some schools have better insurance than others so we recommend considering travel insurance as a supplement if you are not happy with the coverage provided by your school.
Guides and templates sent, filled out by the teacher and reviewed by the school. Constructive feedback given when edits need to be made. Interview support provided.
Create a teacher profile (Resume, picture, intro video). Submit documents, such as degree, teaching certificate, and criminal record. Schools may require additional documents such as academic transcripts, 2 professional references, etc. The staff in Vietnam coordinates interviews with school partners. The interview process generally involves 1-3 calls with the school. Interview is 1-to-1.5-hours. A teaching demonstration may be required (depending on the school) and if so, information will be provided in advance to help you prepare. Before interview, a mock interview is provided with the staff in Vietnam.
Placement Program: 100% of our teachers are placed before arrival. Onsite TEFL & Placement Program: 95% placed prior to arrival, 5% placed whilst on the course. Factors that determine placement before arrival or once in country include, but not limited to: Speed of document collection, Teacher flexibility regarding placement preferences, Interview performance, School breaks and/or long holidays, Immigration visa processing.
One Week Culture, Language Orientation: In-class one week culture and language program upon arrival in country, including: Temple visit, Cu Chi Tunnel Tour, museum visit, Vietnamese cooking class, welcome dinner, practicum experience, language classes.
We offer a very high level of support. Participants are strongly encouraged to contact us at any time if they need help with issues at their school or in their everyday lives. They are also strongly encouraged to reach out to multiple contacts for each country in cases of emergency.

In-class TESOL in Vietnam + Placement in Vietnam: 1. Arrive on a 3 month tourist visa and complete the TESOL course. 2. Once the teacher has been placed and finished the TESOL, they will depart Vietnam on a visa trip to Thailand or Cambodia. There they wait until the Vietnam school finishes the teacher’s business visa paperwork, which is then emailed to the teacher. This can take up to 14 business days as the school can only apply for the paperwork from the Vietnam government once the teacher has left Vietnam. Some schools will supply visa on arrival paperwork, so once a teacher receives that they can then simply fly to Vietnam and receive a business on arrival at the Vietnam airport. Other schools will only supply normal visa paperwork that the teacher then must bring to the Vietnam embassy in the country they are in (Thailand, Cambodia, etc). and apply directly at the embassy. Trip length - estiamted between 10 -14 days Estimated cost - $500 USD --------------- Placement Program: 1. Teachers placed prior to arrival in Vietnam will receive school paperwork to apply for a business visa. Some schools will supply visa on arrival paperwork, so once a teacher receives that they can then simply fly to Vietnam and receive a business on arrival at the Vietnam airport. No change fee applied prior to 35 days ahead of intake date. $250 change fee applies if the participant drops or pushes back to a later intake date within the 35 day timeframe.
