We have volunteer positions right now in Thailand to volunteer as summer camp counselors in our language camps. Help young Thai kids improve their English in creative and fun ways.
Overview
As a language camp counselor in Thailand, by teaching English during day camps, you will give many children an opportunity to learn an important skill that they can use to better their lives.
Becoming a language camp counselor in Thailand is not only highly rewarding, but it’s also a lot of fun. In Thailand, The Cultural Exchange Project's language camps provide English language education to disadvantaged youth. This gives them an opportunity to learn an important skill that they can use to better their lives. These language camps mostly take place in and around schools. Students are offered a chance to practice their English in a more creative set of activities and learning that make the day a lot more fun.
During the camp days, you will participate in many creative activities using art and music with the children. You will also have time for plenty of exercise by playing soccer during activity time. It’s the Thai kids’ favorite sport.
Fees
- $1,699
- As a "thank you gift" from the camps, expect approximately US$100-$150 in local currency.
Included
The fee you pay to volunteer in Thailand goes to our 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity, The Cultural Exchange Project. The program donation for this experience covers:- An online preparatory course on how to cater lesson plans towards English camps, and how to manage your own camp using the current basic curriculum.
- Genuine Thai cultural experiences, away from the tourist traps. Counseling in diverse parts of the country sometimes rarely seen by regular travelers.
- Cultural orientation and foundation, presented by knowledgeable and experienced experts in the fields of culture, politics, and language.
- Accommodation is provided. Participants must pay a refundable deposit. The deposit will be refunded minus utilities. (Shared accommodations).
- Airport pickup in Bangkok and transfer to Bangkok hotel (provide that the applicant land within 4 days of the start of the cultural orientation)
- Welcome beach party with all of your classmates following the completion of cultural orientation
- Meals during camp days.
- Counselors will have the opportunity to help disadvantaged Thai youth learn
an extremely important skill of speaking English. - Accommodations are provided and based on double occupancy. Counselors will be placed with another counselor of the same gender. Counselors must pay electricity and water charges.
- Counselors receive transportation and accommodation when traveling and conducting camps in different regions.
- Stipend between $100 and $150 for work at camps

- International insurance with 24-hour emergency assistance services for US permanent residents. (Available at an additional cost).
In the past during orientation we included:
- In-depth lectures on Thai history, politics, religion, and geography.
- Thai language lessons.
- Several active learning cultural excursions to places and organizations of cultural and educational importance including:
- Muay Thai martial arts training
- A guided tour of a Buddhist temple and a blessing from a Thai monk
- Volunteering with a dog rescue organization
- Visiting an elephant foundation
- Learning about (and taking part in) classical Thai arts and crafts
- Celebrating at a fun beach barbecue we arrange for all participants, a great opportunity to bond with your new friends

What will I do each day? |
Counselors will arrive in Bangkok and check into accommodations for orientation. Counselors will travel to different schools and locations throughout Thailand and participate in English camps for disadvantaged children. |

How do we choose the location of the camps? |
Camps are normally run from a local school and as part of a school day. Schools apply in advance to be considered for a visit by the language counselors. |

What about room and board? Is that included? |
Included throughout the program. Counselors will live in modern accommodations that include Wi-Fi, and air-conditioning, and are convenient to our offices and campus. The accommodations provided are based on double occupancy. 3 breakfasts and 2 lunches are included during orientation. All meals are included while at the camps. When you're not at a camp your meals are not provided. |

Do I need a visa? |
You will enter on the "O" visa for volunteers. The Cultural Exchange Project will help you with this process. The current cost for this visa is $80 US. The "O" visa is good for 90-days. |
