An Important Update About Our Au Pair Programs
Thank You For Your Interest In Becoming An Au Pair
Since 2006, even when we were known as The GeoVisions Foundation right up until now, The Cultural Exchange Project has been proud to connect young people with families around the world through our au pair programs. We’ve loved being part of those stories—first flights, nervous hellos at the arrivals gate, and the everyday magic of sharing life across cultures.
After careful thought, we’ve decided to retire our au pair program and will no longer be placing new au pairs.
This wasn’t an easy decision, but it is a deliberate one. It allows us to focus on what we do best and where we see the greatest long-term impact for global travelers: teaching abroad and high-quality TEFL certification.
What we’re focusing on now
Instead of au pair placements, our energy is now fully behind:
Paid Teach Abroad Programs
Step into a real classroom, earn a salary, and immerse yourself in local life. Our teach abroad opportunities are designed for people who want:
-
Meaningful work, not just a gap year
-
Structured support before and after arrival
-
A clear pathway to develop as an educator
-
A true cultural exchange with schools and communities
We currently offer paid English teaching programs in carefully selected destinations, with additional locations to be announced soon.
TEFL Plus Certification
If you’re serious about teaching English abroad, a strong TEFL qualification opens doors.
Our TEFL Plus course is:
-
Comprehensive and internationally accredited
-
Built around real classroom skills, not just theory
-
Designed to help you stand out with schools and sponsors
-
Supported by our wider Cultural Exchange Project ecosystem
Whether you teach with us or choose an alternative route, TEFL Plus provides you with the foundation to teach confidently and professionally.
“I was hoping to be an au pair. What now?”
If you landed on this page hoping to become an au pair—thank you for considering us and for wanting to be part of cultural exchange in the first place. That says a lot about you.
Even though we no longer run au pair programs, you might find that teaching abroad is an even better fit if you:
-
Enjoy working with children or young adults
-
Want a structured role with clear responsibilities
-
Would like to earn a salary while living overseas
-
Are thinking about a career in education, travel, or international work
- Have at least a bachelor's degree in any subject
Not quite ready to teach yet? Starting with TEFL Plus is a great first step. You can train now and keep your options open for when the timing is right.
Looking ahead
The heart of The Cultural Exchange Project hasn’t changed.
We still believe in:
-
Real human connections, not just tourism
-
Programs that are safe, supported, and ethical
-
Experiences that benefit both you and the communities you join
We’re simply focusing our efforts where we can create the strongest experiences and opportunities—through paid teaching roles and TEFL certification that truly move you forward.
