Overview

Our Animal Rescue Volunteer Program is a life-changing opportunity to make a difference in the lives of stray animals in need while soaking up authentic Thai culture in one of Thailand’s must-visit destinations. This is your chance to be part of a program that aims to dramatically improve the lives of animals in Thailand and tackle the issues at the root of the country’s stray animal problem.

Volunteers experience a hands-on placement in which they conduct tasks involved with the day-to-day running of our shelter and learn about all aspects of operating an NGO. Volunteers spend their days
  • Going on beach or lake walks with the dogs.
  • Conducting bathing and health checks.
  • Participating in feeding runs.
  • Medical treatments for local packs.
  • Working towards the general cleanliness and upkeep of our facilities.
  • PLUS lots of dog cuddles!
  • To top it off, volunteers are immersed in the beauty and culture of Thailand through numerous guided excursions provided as part of their experience.

Fees

  • $1,949 for 1 to 2 weeks. The fee includes accommodation in a volunteer house, directly on the beach.
  • $100 per week for each additional week after the first two weeks.
  • Pay with Klarna and set up weekly or monthly payments.
  • Or pay a $350 deposit, a $500 placement fee when you're accepted, and then a final amount of $1,099 60-days before departure if you're staying 1 or 2 weeks.

Included

The fee you pay to volunteer in Thailand goes to our 501(c)(3) non-profit public charity, The Cultural Exchange Project. The program donation for this experience covers:
  • Our costs of placing you on the program in a safe place to live.
  • Kitchen facility to prepare your own meals.
  • All of the equipment, food, and medicines you need for the animals.
  • The fee also helps our non-profit to provide pre-departure & in-country support. We provide 24/7 emergency service, manned by real people. You are supported from the moment you contact us to the time you return … and beyond, through our active Alumni Community.
  • Transportation to and from the airport in Bangkok, as well as the training you will receive during your volunteer placement.
  • The money we receive from volunteers feeds into the necessary operating costs of the project and providing care to the stray dogs.

What will I do each day?

Fieldwork – Consists of feeding runs in the local area to packs that we have befriended over time. During this time, you will be given the opportunity to learn about stray animal behavior, help us to maintain their health with necessary treatment supervised by one of our resident vets, and overall, help us on our mission to sterilize as many dogs as possible in the area.

Daily Dog Care – Caring for animals includes many daily tasks. In the mornings, volunteers clean the kennels, feed the dogs, and take them for beach or lake walks. Volunteers are encouraged to engage with our dogs in play and build relationships with them for healthy well-being. All volunteers are expected to maintain high standards of cleaning and animal welfare. Afternoon activities change daily depending on the needs of the animals and can include feeding runs, parasite treatments for local packs, releasing dogs back to their packs, and dog training.

Health Checks and Procedures – Sit in on veterinary procedures and help the vets with basic wound care. Perform weekly bathing and de-ticking sessions to maintain the health of the animals.

Media – Help us promote our organization by taking photos and footage of your days as a Rescue volunteer. You will be provided with help and advice to create visually appealing content that will be utilized on our website and social media channels. We also encourage our volunteers to submit blog entries to our blog.

If you prefer 4 or 5-star accommodation, there is a Beach Club one block from the volunteer housing. For an additional fee, you can have deluxe accommodation on the beach. The club also has a great bar and restaurant.
