Work Abroad: My Life as an Intern in Thailand
"Get an internship," they said. "Work 8 to 5 at an office all day," they said. "Make connections and get experience related to your job field," they...
The truth is, we can all come up with a million excuses of why we shouldn't do something. I would consider most of the world excuse makers. When it comes to travel, it is so easy to come up with reasons why we shouldn’t go. I could name 10 right now and I'm sure you’ve already thought of a few yourself. But let’s focus on the positive. To be a way maker I had to first find a program that fit my budget, needs, and timing. After weeks of research, I discovered GeoVisions and their program Thai My Way. It's exactly as it sounds, traveling around Thailand, seeking experiences tailored to YOU!
I spent three weeks in Thailand, melding adventure and relaxation into every day. Traveling across the world and wandering solo in a country where hardly anyone speaks your language was my most invigorating experience yet. And even though I traveled solo, I never felt alone.
I walked with elephants, participated in Thai cooking classes, received hugs from kids at the Pala-U orphanage, experienced a mountain full of monkeys, walked through indescribable Buddhist temples, practiced Yoga with the locals, and shopped in the famous night markets. These are just a few of the experiences throughout my solo journey to the Land of Smiles.
I learned that being a way maker means taking risks and going beyond your comfort zone, because that my friends is where the magic happens.
So, which one are you- a way maker or an excuse maker?!
