Vietnam Is Still Hiring This Fall: Where the Openings Are

If you were watching for the right month to move on Vietnam, the peak hiring window was August, for both language centers and public schools, and it already passed. If you spent the summer deciding instead of applying, you missed it by about three weeks.

That is not the same as missing your chance. Private language centers in Vietnam run year round, and September is a normal month to arrive, not a leftover one. The only month actually closed to new starts is February. Everything else, including right now, is open.

You Didn't Miss the Window, You Missed the Peak

Public schools in Vietnam run their academic year September to May, which is exactly why hiring clusters in August, right before term starts. That's the peak the row on my calendar was originally written for. It just does not describe September anymore, so I'm not going to pretend it does.

What September actually offers is this. Private language centers, which make up most of CEP's Vietnam placements, hire continuously through the year on 12-month renewable contracts. Public school contracts run 9 months and follow the school calendar more tightly, so those roles fill fastest right around August. If a public school seat opens in the fall, it is usually because someone left mid-year, not because the season calls for it.

Where the Openings Actually Are

CEP's current placement cities are Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Binh Duong, Bien Hoa, and Hai Phong. Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi carry the largest concentration of language center openings. Placement location is requested, not guaranteed, so go in flexible on city if you want the shortest timeline to a contract.

Language center hours run 15 to 25 a week across five days, and weekends are part of the normal schedule, not time off. Public school hours run 20 to 25 a week with Saturdays and Sundays free. Worth knowing before you pick a track, since the two jobs feel different day to day even at similar pay.

What It Takes to Get There Before Winter

Vietnam requires a bachelor's degree, no exceptions, which is different from a country like Costa Rica where CEP places non-degree holders too. If you have the degree, the next question is TEFL certification. You can complete a 30-day TESOL course in Vietnam itself, or get certified before you go through TEFL Plus, CEP's own 120-hour accredited course. The first three modules are free to try, no card required, so you can see the material before deciding.

Citizenship eligibility runs through passport holders from the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, and New Zealand, with case-by-case screening for a limited set of others. If you already hold a degree and a TEFL certificate, the fastest path to a September or October start is genuinely just an application away.

The Money

Salary runs $1,400 to $1,600 a month, with savings potential of $300 to $800 a month depending on lifestyle and city. Rent runs $200 to $500 a month. The tax rate falls between 5 and 20 percent depending on residency status. Stay under 183 days in a tax year and you're taxed at a flat 20 percent as a non-resident. Stay longer and you move to a progressive resident rate, which works out lower for most teachers who complete a full contract.

Startup costs run $1,500 for the placement-only track, or $2,000 if you're taking the in-country TESOL course, and that figure is meant to carry you through to your first paycheck. Budget for it as real money, not a rounding error.

If You'd Rather Go With the Full Cohort

Not everyone wants to apply straight into a language center on their own timeline. If you want the guided version, with orientation, a TESOL cohort, and a group of teachers starting together, the next scheduled intake is February 22, 2027. Given the lead time TEFL certification and visa paperwork actually take, this fall is the right season to start that process, even though the placement itself lands in winter.
