When It Comes To Traveling Abroad, Be a Way Maker

A past boss once said to me, “There are two types of people in this world, way makers and excuse makers- which one are you?”

At the time I laughed and didn't think much about it. Then one day I couldn’t stop thinking about the comment and thought deeply to myself, “Which one am I?”

The truth is, we can all come up with a million excuses of why we shouldn't do something. I would consider most of the world excuse makers. When it comes to travel, it is so easy to come up with reasons why we shouldn’t go. I could name 10 right now and I'm sure you’ve already thought of a few yourself. But let’s focus on the positive. To be a way maker I had to first find a program that fit my budget, needs, and timing. After weeks of research, I discovered GeoVisions and their program Thai My Way. It's exactly as it sounds, traveling around Thailand, seeking experiences tailored to YOU!

I spent three weeks in Thailand, melding adventure and relaxation into every day. Traveling across the world and wandering solo in a country where hardly anyone speaks your language was my most invigorating experience yet. And even though I traveled solo, I never felt alone.

This experience was a gentle reminder that the world is full of beautiful people all longing for the same things.

I walked with elephants, participated in Thai cooking classes, received hugs from kids at the Pala-U orphanage, experienced a mountain full of monkeys, walked through indescribable Buddhist temples, practiced Yoga with the locals, and shopped in the famous night markets. These are just a few of the experiences throughout my solo journey to the Land of Smiles.

I learned that being a way maker means taking risks and going beyond your comfort zone, because that my friends is where the magic happens.

I didn't have to quit my job or move across the world to experience the incredible culture of Thailand, I just had to quit making excuses.

So, which one are you- a way maker or an excuse maker?!
